Steps to Take if You Notice a Loose Tooth

Posted on 11/16/2020 by Alan Snodgrass
Steps to Take if You Notice a Loose ToothAt some point or another, most people will have to deal with a loose tooth in their lifetime. It may be due to an accident or some other unforeseen trauma or injury. It may be the result of poor oral hygiene. It may even simply be due to the passage of time and the weakening of teeth as we age. Regardless of the reason, saving the natural tooth would be the most desirable option.

Call Us Immediately

The first thing that you need to do upon noticing that you have a loose tooth is to get in touch with us ASAP. You will want to schedule a time to get into our dental offices as soon as possible to address this issue.

Eat Soft Foods

In the meantime, you will also need to pay strict attention to what you eat. You do not want to do anything to further reduce the stability of the tooth. This means no firm or hard foods which require a lot of chewing. Staying away from most meats (other than fish) is a good idea, as well as harder vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and other similar foods. Eggs, soups, and soft vegetables are the best choices.

Keep the Area Clean

Finally, it is imperative that you keep the area around the loose tooth as clean as possible until your appointment. This means rinsing after every meal and obviously, avoiding smoking or any other tobacco products. It also means applying very little pressure when brushing. These three things can go a long way in helping to preserve the tooth, if possible.

As stated in the first section of today's post, getting in touch with our clinic is the first step in dealing with a missing tooth. Give us a call today for this or any other dental issue that you may be experiencing.
