Dental Filling Vancouver WA

Tooth-Colored Fillings

When you have a cavity, Dr. Farmer can help by removing the tooth decay from your teeth. He specializes in tooth colored fillings, which are necessary to fill the openings in your tooth, where your cavity and surrounding enamel has been drilled out.

You may need dental fillings for various reasons. The most popular reasons are:
•  Your Tooth Has Chipped
•  Tooth Decay
•  Your Tooth is Worn Down

Types of Fillings

There are different types of fillings available including indirect and direct, and temporary or permanent. If you need multiple teeth filled, you will receive a temporary filling, because all of your teeth cannot be filled permanently at the same time. You will also receive a temporary filling if you need immediate relief. Although a temporary filling is a successful procedure, it is not a permanent procedure. To have long-lasting results, you need to have a permanent filling.

If you have an indirect filling, this procedure will last longer than a direct filling, because it is stronger. The material used in a direct filling is soft and used for smaller fillings. An indirect filling is more extensive than direct fillings, and these fillings use dental cement to bond your teeth, unlike direct fillings that use soft material and a blue light. The materials for direct fillings are glass or composite ionomer cement, and silver amalgam. Indirect fillings use ceramics or gold. Silver fillings can cause allergic reactions, but we will help you determine if you are prone to these issues beforehand.

Filling Materials

If you use cast gold fillings, they will last a long time, typically between 10 to 15 years. Gold fillings can help with chewing, and they are strong enough to withstand most chewing forces. Gold fillings may be more favorable in appearance. These fillings do not corrode. Before you can have a cast gold filling, you will need to have at least two visits to our office before we can place them.

Another filling material option is amalgams, also known as silver fillings. These fillings are also durable, and have the ability to last up to 15 years. Silver fillings are less expensive, and they are very strong against chewing forces. Silver fillings can cause teeth discoloration, and cause the structure of the tooth to be destructed. The deconstruction is often necessary in order to hold the silver filling; parts of your teeth may need to be removed to free up space.

If your children require fillings, we will recommend using glass ionomer. This material is made of glass and acrylic. Even though we suggest this procedure for children, a drill will still be used. The fluoride in glass ionomer can protect teeth from decaying. Adults can use glass ionomer material for fillings too. If you need to have fillings below your gum line, this material is recommended for you. A glass ionomer is not as durable as other fillings, and this material will generally last up to five years.
