Braces help realign your teeth, but they can be a challenge to brush. You need to ensure that teeth remain pearly white despite having braces. The good news is that you can do this if you follow the steps we have prepared for you in this post.
Rinse Your Mouth First
You should start with a swish, helping you dislodge any food and particles around your braces. You also loosen any debris on your teeth, making it easier to remove it as you brush your teeth.
Brush Your Teeth Using the Proper Technique
After you rinse your teeth, you can start brushing, and it is recommendable you get a toothbrush designed for braces. Also, brush using the correct technique: brushing at the gum line at a 45-degree angle.
However, you can reposition the toothbrush when brushing under the wire and brackets. Clean every tooth. As you brush each tooth make circular motions instead of side-to-side motions for the best results.
Be Patient
People often hurry to brush their teeth and spend about 45 seconds cleaning them. Dentists recommend you brush for 2 minutes, but if you have braces, you should take a little longer, especially when starting. Have a timer so that you won't be in a rush.
Floss
It would help if you flossed to clean your teeth effectively. It is recommendable you use a floss threader if you are having trouble. As you move the floss, be gentle on your teeth and gums. Also, consider using water irrigators to flush out debris in tight spots.
Rinse Again
After you floss, you can now rinse your mouth. It is not recommendable you rinse your mouth using water. Rinsing using water doesn't allow the toothpaste to do its work. Instead, rinse your mouth using an antibacterial mouthwash. The mouthwash helps eliminate germs, removes lingering debris, and freshens your breath.
